I had asked this in another area of the forum and never got a response (asked about a month ago). I was having a problem understanding Logos Software when looking to purchase. Does the basic Logos software have different Bibles loaded into it? I see that they sold the Dead Sea Scrolls as a separate package and wondered if I would need to buy that, or if in Logos you type in a scripture and various bibles are already loaded - including the Dead Sea Scrolls or other Hebrew text. I am looking at getting it for myself within the next 6 months and wanted to make sure I was buying the right thing.

Thanks!
James

dajstill,

Here is a link to where you can compare the different base packages.

And if you want a look at what Logos can do, at least what I use it for. Here is a link to where I have posted 2 walk through videos.

Now that I have given you the information, let me offer my opinion.

I would recommend the Original Language package. Rather translating or checking translations it's the best bang for the buck. In fact you have to go up to the silver which is about $600 more than the OL to get a lot of the Lexicons and Dictionaries because they are not included in the Scholars package. And the Gold only has a handful of useful books that aren't in the OL. That's one of the big downers of Logos, it has many useful books but fives times as many useless ones, unless you are interested in christian opinions and interpretations. Logos is mainly designed for pastors, not people like us. But the OL is the best starting place, and buy a hard back copy of the DSS Bible, you can get it for about $10.

After the OL if you want to purchase more I would recommend the following:
Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament about $50
Qumran Biblical Dead Sea Scrolls Database about $179

Hope that helps, if you have any other questions let me know.
Don't take my word for it, Look it up.
